Smoke Detectors Alert Bridgewater Family Of Basement Fire

The Martinsville Volunteer Fire Department extinguished the fire with the help of neighboring mutual aid companies on Tuesday night.

BRIDGEWATER, NJ — Smoke alarms sounded late Tuesday night alerting a Bridgewater family of a fire in their basement, said Bill Rose with the Martinsville Volunteer Fire Department.

The Martinsville Volunteer Fire Department was called to a home on Fieldstone Road in the Martinsville section of the township around 10:15 p.m. on Tuesday, said Rose.

Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke and a fire in the area of the electrical panel.

"The home was occupied and the family safely evacuated when their smoke detectors sounded and took shelter with neighbors," said Rose.

No injuries to anyone were reported.

Fast work stopped the fire from spreading from the basement area, according to the department.

Along with Martinsville, help was offered by mutual aid companies in Warren Township, Liberty Corner, Bound Brook, Finderne, Martinsville EMS, and the Bridgewater Police Department.Far Hills-Bedminster Fire, Green Knoll Fire, and North Branch Fire also helped by standing by while Martinsville operated at the scene.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Bridgewater Township Fire Officials office.
