Snow Day Giveback Results In 6-Day Memorial Day Weekend In Bridgewater

The Bridgewater-Raritan Regional School District has not used any snow days due to the unseasonably warm winter season.

BRIDGEWATER, NJ — Thanks to the unseasonably warm winter season, Bridgewater and Raritan students are getting back three unused snow days resulting in an extended Memorial Day weekend, announced Superintendent Robert Beers.

"We are in the fortunate place where we haven't used a single snow day so far this year," said Beers at the Tuesday night Board of Education meeting.

The district allocates three snow days in the school calendar on a yearly basis in case of inclement weather. The winter season resulted in very little snow resulting in no days having to be used.

As a result, Beers said the district will give back three days on Friday, May 26, Tuesday, May 30, and Wednesday, May 31.

"So essentially what happens is Memorial Day weekend becomes a pretty long 6-day weekend," said Beers.

Beers said looking at the 10-day forecast and given the fact that temperatures were in the 70s on Tuesday, it was safe in saying giving back the days "unless there is some other crazy type of weather event."

A letter notifying parents and staff will be sent out.
