Somerville HS to Host 37th Annual Marching Band Competition on October 7th

15 area high school bands are scheduled to participate in the competition

September 19, 2017 - Somerville High School Pioneer Marching Band will host their 37th Annual Competition on Saturday October 7th. There are 15 area high school bands scheduled to participate in the competition: Hunterdon Central, Ridge, New Providence, Cranford, Immaculata, Long Branch, Delaware Valley, Mendham, Point Pleasant Borough, Watchung Hills, Bernards, Franklin, West Windsor-Plainsboro, Ocean Township, and Vernon Township.

The event, at Somerville HS, 222 Davenport Street, begins at 4:30 with the award ceremonies beginning around 10pm. Admission is $10 for adults, $7 for Students and Seniors. There will be food, beverages and homemade desserts for sale. Come enjoy an evening of entertainment for all ages.

The Somerville HS Pioneer Marching Band will perform their 2017 show “Outside the Bachs”, in exhibition, at the end of the competition as the host band. The Pioneer marching band and color guard, totaling 147 students, perform every weekend in the fall, at home and away football games, and US Bands competitions through the beginning of November.

The Pioneer marching band started preparing for the 2017 US Bands competition season in August. They participated in the Lenape Valley HS Competition on September 16th , where they won first place and The Best in Show Award. Their competition schedule includes Hunterton Central on September 23rd, The Yamaha Cup at MetLife Stadium October 14th, East Brunswick on October 21st and The New Jersey State Championships at Rutgers University on October 28th.

The Marching Band is under Director Mr. Matthew Krempasky, and assistant Director Mr. Stephen Loreti. The color guard is under the direction of Joe Harris, Jay Drake, Cindy Wong and Amy Sutphen. Percussion is under the direction of Joseph LaVecchia and Meghan Major. Visual is assisted by Taylor Rehe and Jeremy San Jose.
