Synagogue Threats Spur Increased Patrols In Bridgewater
A warning from the FBI about a "broad threat" to New Jersey synagogues has prompted increased patrols around Bridgewater centers of worship.

BRIDGEWATER, NJ — Bridgewater Police have increased their prescence around centers of worship in the township in response to an FBI warning of a broad threat to synagogues in New Jersey.
"We are aware of the threats to NJ Synagogues and while there is no specific implication to Bridgewater, we are working closely with our partners at FBI – Federal Bureau of Investigation Newark to ensure that our Bridgewater community remains safe," said police on Thursday.
"Out of an overwhelming abundance of caution, residents can expect to see an increased Police presence around centers of worship," said police.

The FBI issued the warning Thursday afternoon saying it had "received credible information of a broad threat to synagogues in NJ," the alert read. "We ask at this time that you take all security precautions to protect your community and facility."
New Jersey Attorney General Matt Platkin said state agencies were coordinating with federal agencies and local law enforcement, and urged everyone to be watchful.

"Please do not be alarmed if you observe an increase in police presence as we are taking these steps in an abundance of caution," Platkin said. "We also call upon New Jersey residents to be extra vigilant and if you see suspicious activity please report it to your local authorities without delay."
"We continue to work together to keep New Jersey safe, and let those who would bring harm to the residents of this State know that New Jersey will not be home to hate, intolerance or violence," Platkin said.
Law enforcement officials urged anyone "if you see something, say something" by calling 911 or call Bridgewater Police directly at 908-722-4111.
