Specialty Grocery Store Opening In Bridgewater Remains A Mystery

BRIDGEWATER, NJ — An application for a specialty grocery store to come to Bridgewater was approved, but the identity of such store remains a mystery.

Rumors have been circling by wishful residents that the store will be a Trader Joe's. The nearest Trader Joe's locations to Bridgewater are in Westfield or North Brunswick.

However, a spokesman for Trader Joe's said, "We are unable to confirm any details at this time."

The Bridgewater Planning Board approved the application on Dec. 11 which was submitted by Kimco Realty, who owns the Bridgewater Promenade shopping center between Routes 28 and East Main Street. The complex currently is home to stores such as Costco, Home Depot, Bed, Bath & Beyond and Target.

The application calls for a "specialty grocery store" to take the place of the former Golfsmith store which was located next to Old Navy.

The store will be about 13,000 square feet, which would mean taking some space, about 2,800 square feet, away from Old Navy's 18,180 square feet to make room, according to mycentraljersey.com.

Another store is also coming to the Bridgewater Promenade — Bob's Discount Furniture will be taking the place of the now closed Babies R Us store. (See Related: Bob's Discount Furniture To Replace Babies R Us In Bridgewater)

Babies R Us closed the Bridgewater location, at 100 Promenade Blvd., as part of Toys R Us' bankruptcy. The location then went up for auction in Manhattan on Sept. 27.

Spokesman Sean Flanagan confirmed Bob's Discount Furniture will be taking over the location with a planned opening on Feb. 14, 2019.

Additionally, they are hiring and have a number of open positions including:

• Warehouse - Product Support Associate
• Sales Associate
• Retail Office Associate
