Trick-Or-Treaters Recovering After Halloween Hit-And-Run In Somerset County

NORTH PLAINFIELD, NJ — Two young trick-or-treaters, who police say were hit by a speeding car on Halloween in North Plainfield, are recovering, said grandmother Hadiyah Davis.

"My granddaughter was just admitted to the rehabilitation hospital to begin her therapies. My grandson is home and recovering very well," said Davis.

The hit-and-run was reported on Monday at 6:22 p.m. on Moutain Avenue and Jeffries Place where North Plainfield Police Officers found a 21-year-old woman and a seven-year-old boy with injuries from being hit by a car, said North Plainfield Police Captain Alan McKay. The vehicle left the scene leaving both siblings laying in the roadway.

"With the help of a passerby, traffic was stopped until medical aid arrived. Both were rushed to the hospital in critical condition," according to a Meal Train set up to help the family.

The Meal Train is collecting monetary donations along with the option for the community to donate meals throughout the week and month.

"We are asking for help with meals as the family and caregivers spend their days and nights at the hospital with the victims," according to the Meal Train.

Davis thanked the community for their help since the hit-and-run.

"Please keep her and my grandson in your prayers. We appreciate the prayers and concern from the community. Thank you all again from the bottom of my heart," said Davis.

The vehicle or driver has not been located as of Thursday.

Witnesses described the vehicle that was involved in the hit-and-run as a black or gold-colored sedan, said police.

A video here was released showing the wanted vehicle in the hit-and-run fleeing on Mountain Avenue shared by North Plainfield Police Department.

Residents are asked to check any available video surveillance systems for any footage that may have captured the incident or vehicle.
