Truck Pulling Trailer Full Of Monkeys Catches Fire On I-287

Video: Firefighters were able to put out the fire before it spread to the trailer full of monkeys in Bridgewater on Thursday.

BRIDGEWATER, NJ — A pickup truck pulling a trailer full of monkeys caught on fire on I-287 in Bridgewater on Thursday.

At 12:43 p.m. on Thursday, a 2006 Chevy Pickup caught fire on I-287 South at milepost 20 in Bridgewater, New Jersey State Police Trooper Charles Marchan said.

North Branch Volunteer Fire Company came out and were "able to quickly knock down the vehicle fire and cool off the trailer before it could spread," the fire company said.

The trailer did not catch on fire and no monkeys were injured, Marchan said.

It's not known where the monkeys were coming from, or how many there were.

The driver was also uninjured.

NJSP Sgt. Philip Curry said the monkeys were coming from Louisiana at the time of the fire. All of the monkeys were accounted for.

"After the truck was towed the monkeys were relayed to wherever they were going," Curry said.

It is unclear where the monkeys were headed.

The highway was temporarily closed while crews worked to put out the fire.
