Woman Dies Of Self-Inflicted Wounds In Raritan Library Bathroom: Cops

Raritan Police were called to the library on Saturday. The library remained closed until Thursday.

RARITAN, NJ — A Somerville woman died after she was found bleeding in the bathroom of the Raritan Borough Public Library on Saturday, police said.

On April 20 at 9:45 a.m., Raritan Patrol Officers were called to the library at 54 East Somerset St.on a report of a woman bleeding in the bathroom, said Sgt. Everett Holt.

Officers saw a 44-year-old Somerville woman suffering from numerous self-inflicted wounds to her arms, said Holt.

Officers immediately started life-saving measures on the woman. Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital BLS and ALS units also helped with providing life-saving measures.

Ultimately the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

A preliminary investigation found the woman’s death to be non-suspicious. The Northern NJ Regional Medical Examiner’s Office will perform an autopsy at a later date.

"We would like to remind the public that if they or anyone they know is suffering from crisis, they can call the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline at 988," said Raritan Police.

The library had closed following the incident. It reopened on Thursday.
