2nd Caldwell Crash Victim Dies In Hospital
An Essex County man and two college students – one from Kean University – were in the deadly crash.

The second of three riders in a fatal car crash in Caldwell has died, authorities announced on Wednesday.
According to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, the fatal crash took place around 11:30 p.m. on Monday, when a 2015 Ford Mustang driven by a Newark college student was traveling southbound on Mountain Avenue near Hatfield Street.
Authorities said that the car veered off the road and crashed into a telephone pole and a tree, killing the front seat passenger, Theo Walsh, 23, of East Orange.

The driver and the backseat passenger – both college students from Newark - sustained serious injuries and are hospitalized in critical condition.
On Tuesday, the driver – 22-year-old Devon Smith - was pronounced dead at University Hospital from injuries he sustained in the crash, authorities stated.

Smith was a third-year student at Kean University, prosecutors said.
The backseat passenger remains hospitalized in critical condition as of Wednesday.
The Caldwell Police Department and the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force are conducting an investigation.
