3 Caldwell High School Artists Earn Prestigious Awards
Learn about the works of art that propelled three students from James Caldwell High School to honors in a recent creative competition.

CALDWELL, NJ — An intricately detailed rendering of a gothic building. An oil painting done in spectacular color and modeling. An elaborate self-portrait and collage. These are the works of art that propelled three students from James Caldwell High School to honors in a recent creative competition.
According to John Bertollo, vice principal at JCHS, congratulations are in order for Anastasia Ghering, Julia Fernandez, and Sophia Ricci, who each earned a prestigious award in the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards competition.
The contest raised more than 4,200 submissions from 1,500 students, Bertollo said.

According to Bertollo:
“Anastasia Ghering won a Gold Key, the highest award, for an incredibly detailed-oriented pen and ink of a gothic building. Julia Fernandez won Honorable Mention for an oil painting of two women of history, done in spectacular color and modeling. Sophia Ricci won both a Silver Key and Honorable Mention for an elaborate self-portrait and creative collage incorporating the art of dance.”
