Borrowing For School Buildings: Final Hearing To Be Held In The Caldwells

NORTH CALDWELL, NJ — Like in many of New Jersey's bustling suburbs, North Caldwell officials say more kids are filing their halls, so they need to move the walls. They say they're educating 710 students in buildings meant for 585.

They want to bond for money to expand, and to do that, they need to hold a public vote in September.

Before sending the plan to the state Department of Education, they have planned three meetings with the public. The third and final meeting will take place this Tuesday, Dec. 13.

"At the meeting, the district’s architect will present the school renovation plans that will be voted on by the NCBOE to submit to the Department of Education," said the board in a message this week. "During the public recognition portion of the meeting there will be an opportunity for community members to voice their opinions and ask questions."

The board anticipates a townwide vote on Sept. 26, 2023.

The meeting will be held at the Grandview School at 7:30, with a remote option (see the links for this week below).

In a message sent to the community on Nov. 9, school officials said, "The Board of Education’s decision to move forward with a bond referendum is one of the most important we have considered during our tenure. It will have a lasting impact on North Caldwell Public Schools and the community we serve. We thank you and welcome your continued involvement."

The meeting will take place in the Grandview School Cafeteria located at 35 Hamilton Drive East, North Caldwell.
