Caldwell Area Students Help Soup Kitchen

Youth Club members at First Presbyterian Church in Caldwell spend the afternoon assembling lunches for the homeless.

They made baloney and cheese sandwiches in an assembly line.

Another team was in charge of juice boxes, some students packed cookies into baggies, others had apple duty. At the end of the line, they threw in some Halloween candy before packing the lunch sacks into boxes.

When it was over, volunteers from First Presbyterian Church in Caldwell had assembled 450 bagged lunches for St. John's Soup Kitchen in Newark. Volunteers included members of the church's Wednesday afternoon Youth Club, a program for first through fifth graders.

Other helpers included adult volunteers from the congregation and friends who came by to assist.

Each year, the Youth Club volunteers to pack bagged lunches for the clients of St. John's Soup Kitchen, a nonprofit program that serves 700 meals a day.
