Caldwell Fatal Stabbing: Guatemalan Teen Arrested In Kansas City, Prosecutor Says

The cousin of a Guatemalan man found stabbed to death in a Caldwell apartment has been charged with murder, authorities say.

CALDWELL, NJ -- The alleged murderer of a Guatemalan man found stabbed to death in a Caldwell apartment last month has been apprehended in Missouri, authorities say.

Authorities allege that Jose Lazaro Gonzalez, 18, of Guatemala, stabbed his cousin, Marvin Lazaro, 27, in an apartment on the 400 block of Bloomfield Avenue in Caldwell on Feb. 26.

Gonzalez was living with three of his cousins - all Guatemalan men - in the apartment where Lazaro was found, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn Murray and Caldwell Police Chief James Bongiorno stated in a joint news release.

Following the alleged stabbing, Gonzalez fled to Kansas City on a Greyhound bus, prosecutors said.

Police arrested Gonzalez in Kansas City; he is awaiting extradition to New Jersey.

It’s believed that Lazaro was living and working in Caldwell at the time of his murder, prosecutors previously stated.
