Caldwells COVID Update: Fatality Rate, Nursing Home Deaths
How many people have died from COVID-19 in the Caldwells and their nursing homes? How do the totals compare to statewide fatality rates?
CALDWELLS, NJ — Authorities released the latest coronavirus death totals for the Caldwells and their nursing homes on Monday.

According to Essex County officials, the borough of Caldwell has seen 106 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with 8 deaths linked to the disease, a 7.54 percent fatality rate.

The borough of North Caldwell has seen 39 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with 4 deaths linked to the disease, a 10.25 percent fatality rate.
The borough of West Caldwell has seen 254 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with 42 deaths linked to the disease, a 16.54 percent fatality rate.

NURSING HOMES IN THE CALDWELLS
Some experts have argued that many towns are seeing inflated COVID-19 totals and deaths due to the number of long-term care (LTC) facilities within their borders.
Statewide, there were 22,965 cases of the virus among LTC residents with 6,139 self-reported deaths linked to the disease, a 26.73 percent fatality rate.
According to the New Jersey Department of Health, as of Friday, St. Catherine of Sienna in Caldwell has seen 13 confirmed cases of COVID-19 among residents, with 1 death linked to the disease, a 7.69 percent fatality rate.
West Caldwell's totals included:
- Crane's Mill (West Caldwell) - 20 cases, 11 deaths (55% fatality rate)
- Crane's Mill Assisted Living (West Caldwell) - 18 cases, 6 deaths (33.33% fatality rate)
- Hackensack Meridian Health West Caldwell Center (West Caldwell) - 100 cases, 21 deaths (21% fatality rate)
