Camp Wyanokie—West Essex's Very Own Campground
Camp can be used freely by residents of five West Essex towns.
"Imagine having your own private forest to visit when you feel like getting away from it all. It's waiting for you at Camp Wyanokie, a natural wilderness environment only minutes from civilization, and less than an hour from home in West Milford, NJ."
So reads the website for Camp Wyanokie, a wooded area less than 30 miles north of the Caldwells that was gifted to and can be used free of charge by the residents of five West Essex towns—Caldwell, Fairfield, North Caldwell, Roseland and West Caldwell.
The 150-acre camp includes a five-acre lake and is adjacent to the more than 4,200-acre Norvin Green State Forest. In addition to camp sites and lean-tos, the camp has latrine facilities, drinking water, a group pavilion and ample parking.
