Clara Maass Medical Center Names Robert A. Brautigan, M.D. to the Board of Trustees

Robert A. Brautigan, M.D., a General Surgeon who practices at Clara Maass Medical Center, an RWJBarnabas Health facility, has been named to the hospital’s Board of Trustees.

Affiliated with Clara Maass Medical Center (CMMC) since 2002, Dr. Brautigan served as Chief of General Surgery for the Medical Center and currently serves as Chair of the Surgical Care Committee. He is also a Vice President of the CMMC Medical Staff and a Member of the Medical Staff Executive Committee.

“Dr. Brautigan brings a deep understanding of both patient and physician needs to his role on our Board,” said Robert Gaccione, Chairman of the Clara Maass Medical Center Board of Trustees. “We look forward to his valuable insights to help guide our institution into the future.”

Dr. Brautigan, of North Caldwell, has been recognized as a Top Doctor by New Jersey Monthly seven times: 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2015, and 2016. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and a member of the New Jersey Medical Society and Essex County Medical Society.

Dr. Brautigan earned his Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of NJ (UMDNJ), New Jersey Medical School in Newark, NJ. He also completed his residency at UMDNJ, where he served as administrative chief resident. He received his Master of Science (MS) degree in Biology at Georgetown University in Washington, DC and his Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Biology with a minor in Chemistry at Villanova University in Villanova, Pa. Dr. Brautigan is a former Chief of General Surgery and a former Chair of the Surgical Care Committee both at Clara Maass.
