Essex County College is Gold Street Fair Sponsor

Essex County College is one of three 2014 Rotary/Kiwanis Caldwell Street Fair Sponsors- showing their support for our community!

Essex County College located at 730 Bloomfield Ave., West Caldwell is showing their community support by being a 2014 Rotary/Kiwanis Caldwell Street Fair Gold Sponsor. The West Essex campus has been serving county residents since 1985.

Essex County College is an open-door public community college that is committed to providing quality educational programs at the most affordable cost. Ever since the College opened their doors in 1968, they have been a part of our community fabric. They currently have an enrollment of more than 16,000 students pursuing Associate degrees and Certificates in more than 40 areas of study. The main campus is in the heart of University Heights, Newark, NJ. The West Caldwell campus (with 1,500 students) offers education and training to our West Essex students, and since 1999, the Police Academy located at 250 Grove Street, Cedar Grove, NJ.

Thanks to the 2012 “Building Our Future Bond Act,” the West Essex campus is slated for a major renovation project. The state is providing $5,013,628 out of a total cost of $6.6 million, to renovate a dozen classrooms with technology rooms, with another six new rooms slated to be added to the 42,000 square foot campus, plus other upgrades. “These renovations will help position our campus to continue to improve our services to the community,” said Dr. Elvira Vieira, Associate Dean of the West Essex campus. With an architect (RSC Architects of Hackensack) in place, Dr. Vieira said construction is slated to begin in the spring. The project is in keeping with the vision of the College’s seventh President, Dr. Gale E. Gibson, in providing the best in education opportunities to county residents.

“A gold sponsorship is one of our major sponsorship levels,” said Tim Blattner, 2014 Caldwell Street Fair chairman and Rotary Club of the Caldwells President. “When you are a major sponsor, you are showing your support for the community and for the volunteers in Rotary and Kiwanis that give back to the Caldwells, Essex Fells, and Roseland.”

Caldwell Street Fair is always the first Sunday in October. On Sunday, Oct. 5, 2014, Bloomfield Avenue between Roseland and Central Avenues will be closed to traffic from 7 AM until approximately 7 PM. An estimated 30,000 guests with over 200 arts & crafts, new merchandise, and food vendors will fill downtown Caldwell between 12 noon and 5 PM. There will be rides for the kids, an incredible 50/50 with 3 winners (need not be present to win), live music and a packed beer garden just off of Hanford Street.
