Fairfield FD Fights Home Fire With Aid From Caldwells, Verona

A firefighter was treated at the scene after he became "light-headed and dizzy," authorities said.

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — The Fairfield Fire Department - with assistance from their peers in North Caldwell, West Caldwell and Verona – put out a home fire on Sunday evening. A Fairfield firefighter was treated at the scene by the West Essex First Aid Squad after he became “light-headed and dizzy,” authorities said.

According to the Fairfield Police Department, the fire took place around 8:09 p.m. at a home on Mayhew Drive.

“All police units, along with the Fairfield Fire Department, were dispatched to the location. First arriving officers determined that all of the home’s occupants were out of the building and safe. They observed a heavy smoke condition and flames coming out of the home.”

A preliminary investigation indicated that the fire began in a downstairs bedroom, authorities said Monday.
