Fairfield Firefighters Do ‘Phenomenal Job' Putting Out House Fire

The North Caldwell and West Caldwell fire departments, Atlantic Ambulance and the West Essex First Aid Squad assisted at the scene.

FAIRFIELD, NJ — Firefighters quickly extinguished a house fire in Fairfield on Wednesday, preventing the whole home from lighting ablaze, authorities said.

According to the Fairfield Police Department, the fire took place around 3:42 p.m. on Big Piece Road. Arriving officers found heavy smoke billowing out of the garage.

The residents were out of the home when officers arrived, the FPD stated.

Shortly after police arrived, Fairfield Fire Department responded to the scene and extinguished the flames. While most of the fire and water damage to the home was contained to the garage area, there was smoke throughout the house, authorities said.

Crews from the North Caldwell and West Caldwell fire departments and ambulances from Atlantic Ambulance and the West Essex First Aid Squad assisted during the incident.

“The fire department did a phenomenal job to quickly contain and extinguish the fire before the whole home became involved,” Fairfield Police Chief Anthony Manna said.

The Fairfield Fire Prevention Bureau is investigating the cause of the blaze, authorities said Wednesday.
