Five Essex County Towns to Crack Down on Seatbelt Violators - Is Yours One of Them?

Essex County Sheriff's Office will also be participating in "Click it or Ticket 2015."

Five local police departments in Essex County, in addition to the Essex County Sheriff’s Office, have been granted funds from the New Jersey Department of Highway Safety to step up patrols during the annual seatbelt crackdown initiative known as “Click it or Ticket.”

In 2015, the campaign will run from Monday, May 18, to Sunday, May 31.

Each of the departments received $4,000 to use to crack down on seatbelt violators and educate the public on the importance of buckling up during the annual Click It or Ticket campaign.

Police departments that got funding included:

  • Belleville
  • Bloomfield
  • Fairfield
  • Millburn
  • Montclair
  • Essex County Sheriff’s Office

According to the New Jersey Division of Highway Safety, 374 police departments participated in the initiative in 2014, resulting in 26,635 seat belt citations, 4,363 speeding summonses, and 944 drunken driving arrests.
