Harassing Packages Sent To Supreme Court Justice Alito's Former Essex County Home: Police

WEST CALDWELL, NJ — Days after the U.S. Supreme Court voted to overturn the 1973 Roe vs. Wade court decision, West Caldwell police have responded to "multiple" calls about harassing packages being sent to an Essex County home formerly owned by one of the justices, they said.

The current homeowner has no relationship to Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito Jr. "and deserves to live in peace in their home free from harassment," police said.

They said that false information has been circulating on the web saying Alito still lives at the home. (He actually lives in Alexandria, Va.)

Police posted this note on Facebook on Sunday and said they would like it shared:

"The West Caldwell Police Department has responded to multiple calls at a residence formerly owned by Justice Samuel Alito. Erroneous information was circulating on the internet that indicated that Justice Alito still resides in West Caldwell, and individuals have been sending harassing packages to the current resident.

"Justice Alito moved out of West Caldwell just after being confirmed to the US Supreme Court, 15 years ago in 2007. The current homeowner has no affiliation with Justice Alito and deserves to live in peace in their home free from harassment, regardless of anyone’s political beliefs.

"All incidents will be investigated and those responsible will be charged and prosecuted.

Alito's street in Virginia has been the site of abortion rights protests in the last year.
