If Trump somehow survives the storm of controversy surrounding his administration, his presidency will be severely crippled. And, for all but his most zealot followers, questions of legitimacy will hang like a toxic cloud over his administration’s dystopian political agenda. Will Pence, Bannon, Miller, Ryan and McConnell, along with Trump’s billionaire cabinet buddies, be permitted gut policies and programs and that have held this country together since the New Deal? While it's arguable that Trump would have won without a push from Putin and Comey, it's not arguable that any suggestion of a mandate giving license to this morally bankrupt administration to dismantle our government, strip women of their reproductive rights, drive religious and racial wedges between people, roll back environmental protections, accelerate global warming, drive up the debt, kill the ACA, gut Medicaid and set the stage for assaults on Medicare and Social Security is treacherous and ideologically mean spirited. So where will the check on this bazaar political enterprise come from? It must come from the people. The seeds of revolt seem increasingly baked in unless leaders across the political spectrum realize that a new way of conducting the business of the people must be adopted; one that expands the vote, strips money out of politics, and begins the process of adopting a new economic model that bows to the needs of the people, not to capital. The people have had enough of this insanity.
