MSU Student Arrested For Alleged Videotaped Sex Assault Against Classmate In Essex County
A Montclair State University student claims that she was assaulted after an off-campus frat party while other students watched and filmed.
Police arrested a Montclair State University student in his campus dorm room on Tuesday for allegedly sexually assaulting another student in September.
Authorities charged Charles J. Jones, 20, of Randolph, with second degree sexual assault after a female student came forward to police and stated that she’d been assaulted at the Newark Broad Street rail station after a fraternity party on Sept. 25.
After reporting the alleged assault to the university police department on Sept. 27, the female student posted a message on Twitter about the incident, MSU’s student newspaper, The Montclarion, stated.

In her social media post, the student claimed that she was sexually assaulted while other students stood around, watched and took a video of the attack. She added that the video was then sent around campus and her hometown, according to The Montclarion.
The student has since dropped out of school due to the trauma in an attempt to “get her life back on track,” The Montclarion reported.

Representatives with the Montclair State University police department and NJ Transit confirmed that their agencies are investigating the alleged sexual assault.
“NJ Transit police are leading an investigation into an alleged incident that occurred off-campus,” Suzanne Bronski, MSU’s director of media relations, told Patch. “Separate from that effort, Montclair State University has immediately launched our own investigation and process to determine if this student violated the university’s Code of Conduct. If this student has violated our code, we will determine what the next step is as soon as possible.”
Bronski told Patch that Montclair State has no Greek life housing on its campus.
According to the MSU website, students who believe they may be the victims of a sexual assault can call university police at (973) 655-5222, or the University Health Center at (973) 655-4361.
