New Director for Roseland Free Public Library

Jennifer Overton promoted to head the Roseland Free Public Library

The Roseland Free Public Library Board of Trustees has promoted Jennifer Overton to the position of Library Director.

Overton, who is originally from Texas, joined the Roseland Free Public Library as a part-time Children’s Librarian in January 2013. Before that, she worked in Austin as a first-grade teacher for 2 years and a kindergarten teacher for 4 years. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Applied Learning and Development and a minor in Educational Psychology from the University of Texas at Austin, as well as a master’s degree in Information and Library Science from the University of North Texas.

Overton, who is now a resident of West Orange, sees the library as a work in progress, always evolving.

“My goal is to keep moving the library in a direction that provides for the needs of our Roseland town patrons. This means we keep up with the current trends and provide innovative programming for all ages,” she said. “We are here to provide for our population and be an access point so everyone has access to information, and to introduce even the youngest of patrons to the love of literacy and learning.”

Whether it is providing access to newspapers and internet to those who cannot afford it, getting kids excited about reading, or sponsoring cultural programs and interesting classes, Overton says the aim of the library is “to bring the community together and provide programming for all ages.”
