North Caldwell BOE Wants To Talk About ‘School Expansion’

Should the North Caldwell school district embark on a large expansion project? Share your opinion at the Oct. 17 BOE meeting.

NORTH CALDWELL, NJ — A possible school expansion project will be forefront on the agenda at the Tuesday, Oct. 17 public meeting of the North Caldwell Public School District at Grandview School at 7:30 p.m.

According to an email from district administrators, board members plan to discuss two topics of interest to the community at their meeting: “developments with respect to a possible school expansion project” and PARCC testing.

“In regard to the school expansion, we expect to further discuss the impact of recent developments in the borough, as well as design aspects of the possible expansion,” district administrators stated.

In April, school officials in North Caldwell said that population growth in North Caldwell will mean an extra 50 students at Grandview School and an additional 47 students at Gould by the 2021-2022 school year.

School administrators said that in order to maintain the district class size of 18 students and take back support spaces that are currently used for educational space, each school would require the following:

  • Grandview: 6 additional classrooms, 9 to 12 small group instruction spaces, 1 music classroom
  • Gould: 3 additional classrooms, 8 to 10 small group instruction spaces, “a connection of the two buildings”

The issue of school expansion is also something that North Caldwell’s neighbors have been wrestling with in the Caldwell-West Caldwell district.
