North Caldwell Police Need New Radio System: NCPD

NORTH CALDWELL, NJ — After doing some research, the North Caldwell Police Department has reached a conclusion: its radio system needs to be replaced.
The North Caldwell Borough Council approved a radio system upgrade as part of the 2017 municipal capital budget during its May 23 meeting, which will hopefully help local police get better reception in the area.
During a municipal budget hearing in March, North Caldwell police detective Michael Credico told council members that the existing radio station needs to be updated, adding that there were several spots in the borough that officers don’t get reception with their current radios.

The proposed radio system upgrade would also work for the municipal fire department and the DPW, Credico said.
Credico stated that police have looked into erecting new towers in the borough, but that it would be prohibitively costly. Instead, police have decided that moving onto the state radio system will be better for the department, he said.

Essex Fells will jointly purchase the radio system, leaving a $585,000 price tag for North Caldwell with a $10,500 yearly maintenance cost, Credico said.
