“We would tell residents to not leave valuables in the cars and to ensure all cars are locked at night,” Deuer said when asked about advice for vehicle owners in the area. “And never to leave the keys in the car or the key fobs close enough to the car so it will start.”

In June, the North Caldwell Police Department issued an alert after several car thefts were reported in the township, warning residents to never leave their keys in their ignitions and to lock their vehicles.
