North Caldwell Teacher Helps Struggling Readers, Earns Nt'l Award
A teacher in the North Caldwell Public School District has earned a prestigious national award, school officials said.

NORTH CALDWELL, NJ — A teacher in the North Caldwell Public School District has earned a national award for Dyslexia therapy, school officials said.
At the North Caldwell Board of Education meeting on Oct. 23, Dawn Laurenzano was recognized as the recipient of the “Innovator Award to an Outstanding Dyslexia Therapist” from the International Multisensory Structured Language Education Council (IMSLEC).
According to school officials, the national award is given to a teacher who demonstrates excellence in the teaching of multisensory structured language and has a passion for helping struggling readers improve. The recipient serves as a role model for other teachers in her approach to teaching and advocacy for struggling readers.

School officials stated:
“Mrs. Laurenzano is an IDA certified Dyslexia Therapist and provides graduate level training in multisensory reading that enables educators to obtain certification as a teacher of dyslexia. Within the North Caldwell school community, Mrs. Laurenzano has been instrumental in working with her colleagues to develop a multisensory spelling program for students in grades K-3. She also generously gives of her time and expertise to assist her colleagues to identify students who are at risk for reading failure and helps to determine effective strategies, techniques and programs to ensure that struggling readers learn to read.”
