
Police Chief George “Don” Milne, 82, of Netcong, formerly of Caldwell, died on Thursday, Dec. 29, 2011.
Visitation will be Monday, Jan. 2 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and funeral will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 3 at 9:30 a.m. from the Ippolito-Stellato Funeral Home, 7 Two Bridges Road, Fairfield. A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas More R.C. Church. Cremation will be at East Ridgelawn Crematory, Clifton.
Milne became a law enforcement officer for the Fairfield Police Department in 1956 before becoming Police Chief in 1980, retiring in 1988. He was a member of the West Essex PBA Local #81 and the International Chiefs Association.

He was a Corporal during the Korean War era for the U.S. Army, serving from 1951-1957. Milne was also a member of the Fairfield Optimist Club.
Milne is survived by his wife Mary (nee Gambino) Milne. He is the father of Marie Lorito Chimienti and her husband Sam; Nancy Lorito Perez and her husband Sam; Doug Milne and his wife Carla; Joseph Lorito and his wife Michele; Frank Lorito and his wife Amy; Providence Lorito; Donna Lorito Romano and her husband Joseph; Donald Milne and his wife Kathy; and the late Lori Milne; grandfather of 13 and great-grandfather of four.

Milne is the brother of Marion and her husband Joy Witwer and the late Hazel Meyer. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
