Soccer Fans In The Caldwells Connect At ‘Caldwell Cup’ Game

The 2nd annual Caldwells Cup brought North Caldwell FC (NCFC) and Caldwell-West Caldwell Soccer Club (CWC) together on Sunday, Sept. 13 for an afternoon of boys' and girls' travel soccer, friendly competition, and community pride.

Players and families from Caldwell, West Caldwell, North Caldwell and surrounding West Essex communities filled the sidelines throughout the day. After CWC captured the inaugural Cup in 2025, NCFC took home the trophy for the first time this year.

While the Cup provided plenty of competitive soccer, some of the best moments went beyond the final scores. Players cheered on other teams from their clubs, families gathered along the sidelines, and sportsmanship was on display across the age groups.

One of the things that has made the Caldwells Cup special in each of its first two years is the connections that already exist throughout the local soccer community. Many of the players competing against one another are friends and even teammates on other teams, adding another layer of fun and friendly rivalry to the matches. Boys and girls who represented opposite clubs on Sunday may be sharing the same jersey on another field later in the week, while many of these same NCFC and CWC teams will also meet again as opponents during their regular seasons.

That familiarity has helped create an atmosphere around the Cup that players, coaches, and families have embraced, with competitive soccer on the field balanced by sportsmanship and connections that extend beyond individual teams and clubs.

With CWC winning the inaugural Cup in 2025 and NCFC taking the trophy in 2026, a local tradition and friendly rivalry are beginning to take shape. The clubs will meet again for the 3rd Annual Caldwells Cup in 2027, with another afternoon of soccer and local bragging rights on the line.
