West Caldwell Appoints New Police Chief

Gerard Paris, a longtime veteran of the West Caldwell police force, will take over as new chief.

West Caldwell has a new police chief… Gerard Paris.

Mayor Joseph Tempesta and the West Caldwell Council introduced Paris as the new police chief during Tuesday’s council meeting.

According to a previous release, Paris joined the police department in 1986 after graduating from the N.J. State Police Academy’s Municipal Class.

He was assigned to the patrol division, appointed a detective in 1996 and assigned to the detective bureau, where he remained until he was promoted to sergeant in January of 1998 and reassigned to the patrol division as a squad supervisor. Paris returned to the detective bureau in December of 2000 as the commander.

In January of 2002, Paris attended the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Va. and graduated in March of 2002. He was promoted in May 2003 to lieutenant and assigned as a shift commander.

He was promoted to captain in 2011.
