West Caldwell Bans Sale, Growing Of Recreational Marijuana

The burgeoning business of recreational cannabis won't be coming to West Caldwell… for now.

WEST CALDWELL, NJ — The burgeoning business of legal cannabis in New Jersey won’t be coming to West Caldwell… for now.

The mayor and council of West Caldwell unanimously passed an ordinance that bans the sale and cultivation of recreational marijuana during its Sept. 11 meeting. Mayor Joseph Tempestra Jr. said that the municipal law will not affect medical marijuana, NewJerseyHills.com reported.

If New Jersey enacts a state law that legalizes recreational marijuana, it could possibly override the town’s ordinance, Tempestra said. (Read the full article here)

According to the amended ordinance, town officials allege that "businesses selling recreational marijuana create special concerns for security, safety and location,” TAP Into Verona/Cedar Grove reported.
