The program will require about five weeks to complete, West Caldwell officials said.

WEST CALDWELL, NJ — A new round of fire hydrant flushing began in West Caldwell this week. It is expected to last for about five weeks, township officials say.

According to a municipal advisory:

“Mayor Tempesta and Chairman Cecere of the Department of Public Works Committee of the Township of West Caldwell, announce that the Fall Hydrant Flushing Program will begin on Monday, September 11, 2023 on Mountain Avenue at the northern end of the Township and will proceed to the southern end of the township at Beechtree Road. The program, which will require approximately five (5) weeks to complete and will be carried out during weeknights between the hours of 8 p.m. and 12 a.m. It is necessary for proper maintenance of our water distribution system. The procedure provides an opportunity to test the township’s fire hydrants and also removes accumulated sediment from water mains.”

Residents are advised to check to be sure that their water is running clear before starting any laundry during this time, West Caldwell officials said.
