West Caldwell Paves Way For Self-Storage Facility After Decades-Long Ban

The facility would have to comply with certain conditions, West Caldwell officials say.

WEST CALDWELL, NJ — The West Caldwell Township Council passed an ordinance earlier this month that will pave the way for a self-storage facility to open in the municipality after more than 50 years of prohibition.

During their Sept. 19 public meeting, West Caldwell Mayor Joseph Tempesta described the ordinance, which will allow one self-storage facility in the township’s M-1 limited manufacturing district, TAP Into West Essex stated.

The facility would have to comply with certain conditions, such as keeping 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. open hours, controlling access to its property, keeping a record of people entering and leaving and allowing police to have right of entry in common areas, Tempesta said.
