West Caldwell Police Body Camera Program Is Now Live
The West Caldwell PD's body-worn cameras are a step forward from the dashcams that officers have been using in their vehicles for 15 years.
WEST CALDWELL, NJ — The West Caldwell Police Department has had a dashcam system inside patrol cars for over 15 years. But the department took a big step forward from that on Friday, when it went live with its body-worn camera program.
The WCPD offered more details about the milestone in a social media post:
“We are very pleased to announce that on Sept. 17, our body-worn camera program is going live! The West Caldwell Police Department has had a dashcam system inside our patrol vehicles for over 15 years. The dash cameras have proven to be an invaluable tool in protecting our officers and gathering vital information at often chaotic scenes. These body-worn cameras will afford our officers additional protection by enabling them to record situations that were not available to be captured by the dash camera system alone. The body-worn camera unit is shown in the photographs attached to this post. It is worn on the officer's chest area where it can be plainly seen.”
“We would like to thank the West Caldwell Township mayor and council for their unwavering support of the police department and their assistance in implementing this important program,” the WCPD stated.
