“If you are stopped for a speeding violation on a residential roadway in West Caldwell, you should fully anticipate receiving a summons,” police added.

“The speed limit on our residential streets isn’t a suggestion; it’s about protecting our neighbors, families and kids,” police continued. “Be the example. Set the pace. Drive 25. When you choose to slow down, others follow. They can only go as fast as the vehicle in front of them. That’s how we create safer streets, together.”

The announcement got a round of applause from several residents. As seen online:

  • “Congratulations to the West Caldwell PD for having the guts to cast aside the typical reluctance by some police agencies to tackle a problem head-on with firm language and resolve to address an issue.”
  • “Yes, especially on Forest and Smull”
  • “Westville is horrible also. If it’s not a parking lot it’s a drag race off the light at lane and Westville.”
  • “On Fairfield Avenue, no one does 25 MPH. It has become a speedway.”
