Tom Callahan

Tom is a hardworking, helpful and police gentleman who is always willing to collaborate with his peers. The precision of his work reflects the time he takes to achieve mastery. Tom, a resident of Roseland, plays football for the West Essex Cowboys, wrestles for the middle school team and also hopes to play baseball for the middle school team.
Calista Manuzza
Calista is a true leader who models citizenship as well as an exemplary work ethic. Her enthusiasm for learning is contagious among her peers. Calista, a resident of North Caldwell, is a competitive cheerleader. She plays on the middle school field hockey team.
The 8th Grade Students of the Month are:
Andrea Echo
Andrea is a responsible, dedicated student who continuously demonstrates an interest in learning. She has an outstanding work ethic and treats all of her classmates with respect. Andrea, a resident of Fairfield, is a member of the Caldwell Cyclones swim team and is an avid snowboarder.
Nick Sylvestro
Nick is a courteous young man who consistently strives for success in his classes. Nick is a gentleman and has an excellent ability to work collaboratively with his classmates. Nick often greets his teachers and peers with a smile. He is a great role model. Nick, a resident of Fairfield, is a long distance runner on the middle school track team and plays on the middle school soccer team.
Every month, West Essex Middle School will select four students to be recognized and honored as the Students of the Month. Two students from each grade will be selected and the selection for each month will come from one academic team at each grade level. Cross-teamed students will not be neglected and will also be included in the selection process.
To be selected as a Student of the Month, the middle school staff has decided to base candidates and selections on a review of the “whole” student not just the student with the best grades. Character traits such as honesty, perseverance, responsibility, integrity and leadership as well as a student’s academic qualities will be included in selecting students to be honored.
Honored students will have their pictures displayed in the middle school display case outside of the main office and on the middle school website. Honorees are also recognized during the morning announcements and receive a certificate recognizing their accomplishment, a “Student of the Month” locker magnet and a $5.00 Student Store Gift Card.
