Will Schools In The Caldwells Be Closed Monday? Snowstorm Closes Roads, Causes Power Outages

School districts across the state have announced closures, including several in Essex County.

CALDWELLS, NJ — Public schools in the Caldwells will be closed on Monday, Jan. 26 due to a winter storm.

Three school districts in the area announced closures via messages on their websites:

CALDWELL-WEST CALDWELL “Due to the weather, all Caldwell-West Caldwell Public Schools will be closed on Monday, January 26, 2026. Stay safe.”

NORTH CALDWELL “Schools will be closed Monday, January 26th, 2026 due to the hazardous and dangerous weather conditions. Please Stay Safe.”

WEST ESSEX REGIONAL “School Closed on Monday, January 26, 2026. Snow Day! Due to the current storm and extended weather forecast, the West Essex Regional School District is closed Monday, January 26, 2026. All athletic events, practices, and extracurricular activities are cancelled. Thank you for your understanding as we prioritize the safety of our students and staff.”

Snow, ice, wintry mix and subzero wind chills lashed the Garden State Sunday as the massive winter storm anticipated for days arrived in earnest at daybreak and deprived thousands of power.

Gov. Mikie Sherrill has directed all state offices will be closed Monday due to inclement weather conditions.

In New Jersey, commercial vehicles were banned from the state's highways as of 12:01 a.m. Sunday. Only the New Jersey Turnpike, Garden State Parkway and Atlantic City Expressway are exempted from that ban, state transportation officials said.
