5 Charged in Chatham Car Burglary Spree, Cops Say

Some 30 automobiles were hit over the weekend, police report.

A two-night car burglary spree on two roads in Chatham Borough has led to charging two men and three teens, Chatham Borough’s Kevin O’Shea announced.

The burglaries occurred during the overnight hours of Friday and Saturday this past weekend, with a total of 30 cars burglarized in the Watchung and Washington Avenue areas, O’She said.

In total, $37 in change and small bills, a tool set with a $75 value, and three wallets were reported stolen, O’Shea said.

Five suspects were identified, and are being charged. They include:

Richard Isaacs, 19, of Orange, charged with four counts of burglary, two counts of theft, conspiracy to commit burglary, and use of a juvenile to commit a criminal offense.

Leonard Watts, 18, of Newark, charged with four counts of burglary, two counts of theft, conspiracy to commit burglary, and use of a juvenile to commit a criminal offense.

Both have been lodged in the Morris County Correctional Facility.

Three juveniles from Essex County are also being charged with four counts of burglary, and two counts of conspiracy to commit burglary. One of the teens is in the Morris County Juvenile Detention Facility and two others were released to their parents.

All vehicles burglarized were left unlocked, O’Shea said.
