In November we tend to think of all the things we are thankful for. At Senior Services one of our blessings is our Board of Trustees. This group of dedicated volunteers is 16 member s strong who serve for a 3-year term. We strive for an equal mix of members from Chatham Borough and Chatham Township with a variety of backgrounds and skills. A Board member can be any age, but the most important quality is a willingness to give back to the community.
What do they do? Board members formally meet 10 times a year and serve on one or more committees. They make policy decisions and review the finances. They plan and staff special events including our Paper Shredding days ( Nov. 2 and an upcoming one in the Spring), garden tour (coming June, 2014) and serve as the cooks and greeters at all our senior center barbeques and donor thank you parties.
One member brought her decorator in when we were remodeling to help select a new color scheme. Another coordinated scout volunteers and Eagle Scout/Gold Award projects. So far we have been the welcome beneficiary of more than 10 such projects. A third dedicated member rode our senior bus around town to get a better handle on what our senior riders experience so she could bring a dose of reality to a transportation summit we hosted a few years back.
