
The Chatham U12 Baseball Team advanced to the Cal Ripken New Jersey State Tournament with a 3-1 District 12 semi-final victory on Sunday morning against Scotch Plains-Fanwood.
They will be one of approximately 13 teams that will compete in Mount Olive in mid July for a chance to represent N.J. in the Cal Ripken Regional and then World Series Tournaments. Chatham scored all three of its runs in the first inning as Matt Karpowic drove in Tommy Winter and Max Schelling with a line drive single down the third base line.
Earlier, Chatham's standout shortstop Mac Bredahl scored on Ryan Chase's seeing-eye hit to right field.

Chatham's defensive efforts were led by its two pitchers, Billy Gyves and Matthew "The Ice Man" Stamford, who scattered three hits in their third combined win of the district tournament.
Peter Demaria (1-3) made an outstanding play at first base to start the sixth inning, and Clay Delsandro made two key plays at second base to help preserve the victory.

Chloe Blanc, Will Covino, Ethan Glasgow, and "Hot-Dog" Charlie Bergman all also contributed in Sunday's big win.
The team will be leaving for Cooperstown this Saturday to play in a five-day tournament at the All-Star Village, and will look forward to getting back to business in the N.J. "States" upon their return.
