Chatham Youth Wrestlers: Jared Cohn, Brian Boler and Colin Boler Place In Novice Wrestling State Championships

Chatham Wrestling

On February 10, 2013 hundreds of novice wrestlers from all over New Jersey came to Madison High School to compete in the First Novice Wrestling State Championships.

Three members of the Chatham Youth Wrestling Club were at this event on behalf of Chatham. To earn a spot in the 18 man brackets, a wrestler had to first place at a qualifying tournament. On January 3, 2013 Jared Cohn, Collin Boler and Brian Boler qualified for this event by placing at the Tom's River Qualifier.

Jared and Brian came in second at this event and Collin took third place. Once at the State Championships, Jared Cohn got a forfeit in the preliminary round and then beat his next opponent 8-4. Jared then lost a close match in the quarter finals. In the consolation round, Jared wrestled well but lost a close one, 5-2, to finish the day in fouth. Brian Boler (65) lost his first match to a wrestler from Oakland 8-2. Brian then pinned a wrestler from Nutley in the first period. This was a great win for Brian since he previously lost to this wrestler at a regional tournament.

Brian then took on a kid from Rumsen who was beating him 2-1. With 10 seconds left in the third period, Brian took his opponent down with a headlock to win the match 5-2. Brian than faced the same kid he lost to earlier from Oakland. This time the resultt would be different. This time around Brian beat him 8-2 to finish the day in fourth place. Collin lost his first match 4-2 to a wrestler from Montville. Collin then beat his next opponent from Watchung Hills 5-4 and then pinned his third opponent from Elizabeth. Collin then lost to his next opponent from Morristown to finish the day in seventh place.

This was a great day for our boys who are now considered the best in the state in their respective weight classes.
