Chatham Youth Wrestlers Qualify To Wrestle At State Championships

Chatham youth wrestlers qualify to wrestle at state championships.

The goal of every wrestler in our program is to become a New Jersey State Champion in wrestling. That is no easy task since New Jersey is the second best state in the country in wrestling.

Thus, the competition is unbelievable.

Additionally, a wrestler can not just sign up for this event. Rather, a wrestler has to earn a spot on the 16 man bracket by placing in the top three at a regional qualifer.

On Sunday, July 20, 2013 four of our wrestlers did just that at the Randolph Qualifier held at Randolph High School. Drew Mitzak (96) had an outstanding day pinning both of his opponents in the second period to take first place. Jack Chambers (190) also took first place at this event. PJ Joel (85) and Niccolo Colucci (130) both lost close matches in the finals of their respective weight classes to finish the day in second.

Drew Mitzak and Niccolo Colucci will be representing Chatham in the Scholastic State Championships on March 17 at Union High School and PJ Joel and Jack Chambers will be representing Chatham on March 24 at Moorestown High School.
