Chatham Boys Soccer Beats Par Hills in MCT
Cougars advance on goals by Bristol and Ezzet.
The Chatham boys soccer team cruised into the second round of the Morris County Tournament, defeating Parsippany Hills by a score of 2-0.
Josh Bristol opened the scoring just four minutes into the game, finishing a cross from fellow senior Trip Burke.
Bristol has emerged as a key contributor to the Cougar offense this season. In limited time last season, he played well and earned a starting spot this year.
Said Burke, "[Josh] has been more productive [this year], getting good chances and finishing. He's getting early goals and helping us win."
Burke ended up netting a beautiful goal in the 46th minute after a solid individual effort.
Chatham dominated the game, as the Vikings had very few opportunities to score. Cougar goalkeeper Brian Petrunik had no trouble recording a shutout.
Senior Laurent Ezzet almost scored on a header from a corner kick in the 75th minute, and Brian Fox had a goal-bound shot saved in the 77th.
Coach Gene Foca felt it was good to get some of the more inexperienced players some time on the field today.
"We're at a point in the season where the legs are heaving and the games are intense," Foca said. "We have county games, state games, and very tough string of important conference games coming up."
He also mentioned the importance of keeping his starters ready for the next game by getting playing time for 16 to 18 players each game.
