How and Why Children Benefit From Wrestling: Chatham Wrestling
Why Children Benefit From Wrestling
More important than just building a better athlete, sports should build a better person. Wrestling, in particular, develops discipline, focus, dtermination, manners, punctuality, strength, stamina, tenacity, toughness, confidence, humility, grace and self reliance. These are all characters that are essential to success and respected by society. Society also respects a person who wins with humility and loses with grace. There are many unique aspects of wrestling. One of the unique aspects of wrestling is the respect for others that is taught and required on and off the mat. In time, this respect grows into a heightened level of self confidence and discipline. For the parents, this cultivated respect and discipline can appear "heaven sent". As a result, very rarely does one find a youth wrestler in Chatham who is poorly behaved or disrespectful of others. Wrestling is one of the oldest sports known to men and women and is considered one of the best forms of self defense. While a child will learn to wrestle during practice in a fun and athletic atmosphere, the wrestling room and competiton mat is where our athletes get prepared for life's many challenges. In life, like wrestling, an athlete does not always win. A win is only the result of a match and not a measure of success. All of our wrestlers are success stories. Practicing and competing teaches them the value of hard work, motivation, goal setting, persistence, perserverance and resolve. These are the attributes that will prepare them for life's challenges. If a child can step in the circle and wrestle another unknown child in front of a crowd, he/she can do anything in life. We at Chatham Wrestling do just that.
