Madison Day Care Center Kids Stop & Shop for Smart Foods

Let's go for the fruit and veggies!!! Children at the Family Service of Morris County Madison Day Care Center prove that healthy eating can also be enjoyable eating.

Let’s go for the fruit and veggies!!!  Instead of doughnuts and cookies, children at the Family Service of Morris County Madison Day Care Center purchased healthy snacks during their trip to the local Stop & Shop. This was a memorable teaching moment that proved even the youngest consumers can understand that healthy eating can also be enjoyable eating.

"The fact is that kids love sweets,” explained Mimi Redmond, a teacher at the Center. “We help them understand that there are fun alternatives and demonstrate it in a creative way. For instance, instead of consuming soda and ice cream, they create their own yogurt or smoothie with yogurt, fruit juices, nuts and berries.”  At the supermarket, each child filled his or her own shopping bag while exploring the aisles of fresh produce and dairy items. After carefully making their selections, the children carried their bags back to the classrooms at Grace Church and during snack time experienced tasty treats from the choices they made.

Interested in having your child share the fun?  Madison Day Care Center is inviting 2½ - 6 year old children and half day kindergartners to join its program right now.  It is a full-day, year-round licensed facility located at Grace Episcopal Church on Madison Avenue and operated by Family Service of Morris County.  State-funded financial assistance is available to qualifying families.  The Center welcome parents considering child care to visit the center and talk with the staff.  For further information or to schedule a tour, please contact Madison Day Care Center Director Teresa Macaluso at (973) 377-6941 or visit their website.
