Since last year’s fall storm, most of the tree-related activity in Chatham Borough has been related to clean up, pruning and tree removal.
In the past few weeks, the Chatham Borough Shade Tree Commission, with support of Borough Council Liaison James Lonergan, is pleased to have 31 new trees planted throughout the Borough. The plantings are being completed by Coviello Brothers in Madison.
Due to budget constraints, the Borough has not been able to do as many plantings, and the Chatham Borough Shade Tree Commission did not think they would be able to do a planting this year based on limited available funds. However, due to a grant provided to the Shade Tree Commission from the Chatham Jaycees, the Commission had enough funds to complete a fall planting.

We so appreciate the support of the Chatham Jaycees in providing a grant; it really made this tree planting possible,” said Lonergan.
Tree plantings are fulfilled on a first-come, first-serve basis. While not every tree request could be accommodated with this planting, The Chatham Borough Shade Tree Commission hopes to follow up with subsequent plantings next year.
