St. Patrick Second Graders Meet the Queen

Second grade students learned about bee keeping and the challenges facing the honey bee population.

On Thursday beekeeper Albert Tomaro of Chatham introduced the second grade class of St. Patrick School to the queen bee. Through a clear frame hive students watched the queen lay eggs and workers make honey. Mr. Tomaro spoke to them about the importance of beekeeping and the challenges facing the honey bee population.  The students had an opportunity to see and touch beekeeping equipment and beeswax and taste honey. The visit was part of the S.T.E.M (science, technology, engineering and math) program which integrates science and engineering into the daily curriculum of St. Patrick School.

St. Patrick School is a co-educational school serving grades Pre-K through Eight, located in Chatham, NJ. St. Patrick is an AdvancED Accredited school offering advanced academics, competitive athletics, spiritual formation and leadership development.
