Stanley Congregational Church Holds Earth Day Celebration

Stanley Congregational Church holds Earth Day Celebration featuring earth-centered activities throughout the morning celebrating the beauty and diversity of the Earth and all of Creation.

In keeping with our certification by GreenFaith as an environmental leader in sustainability, Stanley Congregational Church, United Church of Christ, will observe Earth Day 2013 on Sunday, April 21, 2013, with Earth-centered activities throughout the morning celebrating the beauty and diversity of the Earth and all of Creation.

A “Green” coffee hour will follow the service.  A variety of organic and locally prepared foods will be served.

Children will have the opportunity to visit Stanley Church’s rain and herb gardens and walk around the church property to identify and appreciate our many species of plants and trees as they begin to grow and blossom in Spring.

In February, the children planted pots of herbs including dill, cilantro, basil, and parsley, which have been watered and tended each week. The herbs will be sold during coffee hour to help raise money for the purchase of a tree to be planted on the church grounds in celebration of our GreenFaith certification.

Stanley Church is one of the first houses of worship in the country to achieve this certification.  Founded in 1992, GreenFaith is an interfaith environmental coalition, which inspires, educates, and mobilizes people of diverse religious backgrounds as environmental leaders.  GreenFaith is widely recognized as a leader in the international religious-environmental movement.   Through a range of innovative programs, GreenFaith helps diverse religious institutions put their beliefs into action for the earth.
