Car Stolen From Chatham Township Home: Police

The car was stolen from inside the garage, police said.

CHATHAM, NJ — A car was stolen early Sunday morning from a Chatham Township residence, Chatham Police said.

According to police, a 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe was stolen after two suspects used the garage opener found in another unlocked car in the driveway to enter the garage.

The two suspects then entered the house, discovered the keys to the Hyundai Santa Fe parked in the garage, and fled the scene with the stolen vehicle.

The Chatham Township and Borough Police Departments have previously issued warnings, reminding residents to be cautious when leaving their cars parked.

Chatham Township Mayor Ashley Felice spoke at a previous council meeting about the increase in vehicle theft in the area, claiming that the council has been working with police to help put an end to the problem.

"We are well aware of the situation and it is scary, it really is. Public safety has been the No. 1 priority of this committee," Felice said.
